Maldive has a Dynamic History.It is a Land of Great People.IN 5th Century B.C The First Settlers in Maldives Island were Buddhist Seafarers from Srilanka and India.Islam Was Introduced and Adopted as State Religion of Maldives in 1153.For Many Years Arab Traders Stay at Maldives Island.Then Maldives Came Under British Protection in 1887.IN 1932 Maldives adopted First Constitution in Sultan Shamsuddin Tenure.Before That Maldives have the Unwritten Constitution just like British.The Sultan was Elected by Council of Advisers of Maldivian Elite and It was not a Hereditary Position.IN 1934 Sultan Shamsuddin was Removed and Hasan Nurudin was Elected as Sultan.When Srilanka Gained Independence From British in 1948.Maldives Signed Defence Agreement with British.According to This Agreement British got the Right to Take Control of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and British Promised that He will Not Interfere in the Internal Matter of Maldives.In 1953 The Sultanate was Abolished Maldives Become Republic.Amin Didi Become First President of Maldives.The Maldives lost the Republic Status on 21 August 1953 and Due to Revolution in Maldive The Republic Status Abolished.Maldives Converted into Sultanate on 31 January 1954.This Change was Completed by Ratification in Constitution of Maldives in 7 March 1954.According to This Constitution Maldives will have Elected Monarchy.The Legislature have 54 Seats in which 6 Members were from King,46 Members were from the People and 2 Members were from Business Community.ON 26 July 1965 Maldives got Independence From British under an Agreement.Due to This Agreement British Still have the Right to Use Gan and Hitaddu Air Base Facilities in Maldives.After the Independence Under The Rule of President Ibrahim Nasir The Constitution was Repealed and Again Maldives Convert from Sultanate to Republic in 1968.The New Constitution Declared That Maldives is Independent and Free State.IN The New Constitution It also Declared That The Election of President will be Held Through a Secret Voting of 54 Member Unicameral Legislature.IN 1980 President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom Called the Legislature to Amend the Constitution.An Important Amendment Was Done in New Constitution Which Grant the Right to Every Individual Citizen of Maldives to Contest For President Election.Any Individual who Want to Contest President Election will have to Submit Application to Legislature.Then Legislature will Choose the Candidate from the Application and After That Candidate will be Elected Through a Public Referendum.IN 2003 Anti-Government Riots Erupts in Male The Capital of Maldives due to the deaths of 4 Prisoners.The Riots Ends When Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was Elected as President for Sixth Term with a Record 90% Votes.After That President Abdul Gayoom Promised to do Political Reforms.The Sixth Constitution Ratified in August 2008 With a New Set of Democratic Rights.Separation of Power and Accountability and Transparency.This Constitution Allow Multi-Party Election in 2008.IN 2013 Maldives Election were held in two Rounds.The First Round was Annulled by Supreme Court which was Held on 7 September 2013.The Second Round was Held on 16 November 2013 and IN This Round Abdulla Yameen Become the President of Maldives by Securing 51% Votes.Maldives has the lowest Populated Country in Asia.Its Population is 341356.Maldivian Dhivehi is the Official Language of Maldives.
